| FOREST LEGISLATION
1.THE NAGALAND JHUMLAND ACT 1970
(NAGALAND ACT NO3 OF 1974)
The act is in the force and amendments to the act have been submitted to the
Government, from time to time, for updating the act.
2.FOREST CONSERVATION ACT - 1980 (NO 69 OF 1980)
The State Government has extended the application of Forest Conservation Act -
1980 (no 69 of 1980) partially to the state of Nagaland, vide Government
notification No. FOR-58/82 dated 3.7.1986. The Act can be enforced only in the Reserved
Forest, Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Park areas
3.Joint Forest Management (JFM)
The
Department aims at afforesting the jhum areas / other degraded forest areas with the
objectives of converting such areas in to productive forests with the active participation
of the land owners on usufruct sharing basis as laid down in the JFM Notification. For the
success of this program the Department shall bear the financial burden of creating the
plantation and technical management and the landowner (participating community) shall be
responsible for the protection of the plantation so created, through Community Forest
Committee (CFC).
4.Water Prevention and
Control of Pollution Act
Water forms an important part of the
Environment and plays a vital role on the quality of life. The maintenance of quality of
water has become a subject of great concern in view of the water sources being polluted by
industrial refuses. The State Government has timely taken up the matter by adopting
Water Prevention and Control of Pollution Act during March 1997, and the
Government vide order No FOR/GEN/100/96. Dated 25.11.97 constituted the State Pollution
Control Board. |
